Welcome back to the Pool Sessions! I decided this time around I'd make a post on the weekly focus to help guide you through the daily sessions. The training plan I've written is by week so I'll be posting these prior to the week commencing.
The first couple of weeks will be simple, just getting acclimatised and working on gradual endurance building - after such a long time off it's important that we just get everything moving again slowly.
My main goal right now is building the habit back - turning up at the pool everyday and getting in - anything after that is a bonus. I'm not worried about the distance I'm swimming this week, though I'll be more focused on time in the water towards the end of the week.
The second most important factor for me is simple - Don't get injured! It's the worst thing that could happen and made much more likely after such a long time off. Give your body a chance to acclimatise, not just within the session but over the course of the next couple of weeks. Pushing too hard too soon is also a great way to lower the immune system and get sick! Warm up and cool down gradually, these two important parts of a session are often cut when time saving. When the shoulders in particular fatigue, be thinking about stabilising the joints or easing of intensity, don't just push through it. We want to be back in the pool tomorrow!
Let's enjoy it!
